Wise Counsel

King David is classified as one of the most successful and influential kings of all time. He reigned for 40 years over a mighty nation and conquered a lot of cities and other nations around him. Some of the decisions he made was daring, but it worked.

But he didn’t make these decisions by himself. Yes, he consulted God, Through prayers, burnt offerings and wise counsel from men God send to assist him. He is not the only king who made use of counselors to advise him. When you read the old testament, there are a lot of examples of where God send counselors or prophets to advise his people.

There are also examples where people followed wrong or unwise counsel and lost half there kingdom. (1Kings12:1-17) So you need to ensure that you surround yourself with wise Godly inspired counselors to advise when you need assistance in making decisions.

God intended good things for us, (Jer29:17) a full life, life in abundance (Jhn10:10). As we live our life there are times where we need to make life changing decisions. God never intended for us to make these decisions on our own. He wants us to ask Him for guidance. (James1:5-8) He promised to guide us through life and show us the way we should go. (Ps32:8) But if you are like me, this is all good, but I sometimes feel like Gideon who needs to ask for signs and wonders to know which way I should go and then I’m still not certain if I’m making the right choice.

This is when you call on wise, good counselors to advise you. (Prov12:15; Prov11:4) And don’t be foolish and not listen. (Prov15:22) If you do not agree with the advise, evaluate what about the advise you do not agree with. Is it because it will affect your comfort or own desires? Then you need to evaluate if your desires is in line with God’s desire. Is it because you feel it is not possible and it puts your own limitations on display? Then you need to find the truth in God’s word on what is possible for God. We tend to make decisions based on what we think we can face or handle. Instead of making decisions based on what God can do and wants to do.

God probably already told you which way to go (Isa30:21), but your own fear is blocking His voice, His counsel. If anything was possible, what decision would you make? …

Now, go and do it!
